I really enjoyed DiRT 1 but am not sure how close this game is to that.

Depends how hardcore you like your games. It’s a big jump from the previous Dirt games.

I got it, it’s fucking fantastic. It is VERY difficult, though, it’s for sure a full-on sim. But I like that.

Hmm... I like to relax in my free time. Would I get frustrated and rage quit?

Realism, complexity & difficulty. Dirt Rally is brutal and I’ve barely played it. I need to put some more time into it but Trackmania is dominating my gaming time at the moment.

I think you should get it IFF(!) you have a wheel. At least for me, the gamepad controls just don’t let me do what I’d like. I can’t always have a huge steering wheel sitting on my desk all the time, so that’s a bit of a disappointing aspect of it for me, that I can’t just jump into the game without a little bit of work setting my wheel back up.

Yep. No job, no money, soon to be engaged, and no wheel.

Like other have said, it’s very much a sim style game. It’s very satisfying when you nail a stage but good god, unless you have a wheel don’t bother.

TL;DR - The game is fantastic, even when using a controller and in spite of the difficulty.
OK, I played for a couple hours last night. As others have said, it is definitely difficult. The icy stages of Monte Carlo had me spinning down the road in the A110. It is definitely a challenge, and you probably aren’t going to hop on and win stages right away even at the low difficulty settings.
You definitely have to listen to the codriver and it’s not just a pin it and win it style of driving. On tighter, bumpier or icier stages you will need to slow down and not go 10/10th’s if you want to keep it on the road and stay in contention. It is super fun though.
The cool thing about a rally game is that you aren’t getting punted by stupid AI, so you can fully concentrate on your own driving without having to worry about what other cars are doing, so that eliminates a lot of the frustration. I’m using a controller and while a wheel would be nice, I don’t see that as being absolutely necessary.
